Woodrow Franklin Blalock 92, Tiger
Mr. Woodrow Franklin Blalock, 92 of Tiger, Ga., went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at his residence.
He was born July 26, 1918, in Rabun County, Ga., to the late Emory and Arie Smith Blalock. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Ferd and Fay Blalock, three sisters Irene and Mary Blalock and Bessie Davis.
Woodrow is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene Lovell Blalock. One daughter Betty Jo and Bob Daniti and children, Lisa and Laura of Tiger. Two sons Jim and Kathy Blalock and children, Erik and Amber of Clayton, Ted and Angel Blalock and children, Mike, Jamie, Woody, Cristina, and Justin of Tiger, and sixteen great grandchildren.
Woodrow graduated from Rabun County High School in 1936 and served in the US Army in World War II where he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was a life-long member of Tiger Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and a Deacon. He was also a Gideon in the Rabun County Camp. He owned and operated one of the first real estate companies in our area along with the Cotton States Insurance Agency, for many years. He was known as “ye ole mountain man” by the local realtors.
Funeral services will be at the Tiger Baptist Church Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Tim Hunnicutt and Rev. Johnny Wright officiating. Interment will be in the Tiger cemetery. The body is at Hunter Funeral Home and will be taken to the Tiger Baptist Church Thursday afternoon June 23rd where family will receive friends from 6 to 9 PM.
The family is at the home on Blair Street in Tiger.
