Mrs. Winnie Mary Thomas McCracken Scroggs of Clayton, Georgia, passed away on November 19, 2015 at the age of 88.
Winnie was born to parents Henry Lewis and Velma Kimsey Thomas on December 13, 1926 in Opelika, Alabama. She grew up as one of ten children, attending Lakemont High School where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. In 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, Robert McCracken and had five children. As life happens, a divorce and years later, she met and married Russell Scroggs, with whom she had two children. Winnie worked very hard all of her life as a homemaker and as a diet technician at a local nursing home, supporting her family best she could. In her later years she loved her cat Rocky and she loved her beautiful roses which she carefully nurtured in her garden. She enjoyed time with her children, grands and great grands all of whom made her young again. Her special treat was to be taken on long drives around the various lakes in Rabun County reminiscing about by gone days.
Winnie is preceded in death by her parents Henry and Velma; her sisters; Ida Smith, Nellie, Violet, brothers; H.L., Lindbergh, Carey, and Quintin; son, Stephen McCracken; daughters, Barbara and Linda McCracken; grandchild, Jade Scroggs and great grandchild Camila Watts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity of choice in the name and memory of Winnie Scroggs.
Say not in grief that she is no more but say in thankfulness that she was.
A death is not the extinguishing of a light, but the putting out of the lamp because the dawn has come.
