Vivian Virginia Matthews Tatum 94, Walhalla, SC


Vivian Virginia Matthews Tatum, 94, of Walhalla, SC, formerly of Rabun Gap, GA and Cornelia, GA died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Lila Doyle Nursing Facility in Seneca, SC.
She was married to the late Wilmer Reginald Tatum, Sr. for 59 years. She was the daughter of the late Jay Brayton and Monnie Scarborough Matthews, Asheville, NC.
She and her husband served in several capacities at Rabun Gap Nacoochee School from 1960 until his passing in 1994, to include dorm mother and managing the Clothes Closet. She worked at the Rabun Gap Crafts for a number of years. She also served as Co-chairman of the Habersham Baptist Association Committee for Georgia Baptist Children’s Home from 1950-1960. She most recently was a member of Head of Tennessee Baptist Church and a volunteer at the Sharing and Caring Thrift Store in Clayton, GA.
She is survived by three children Reg Tatum (Peggy Westbrook) of Walhalla, SC, Ginger Restall (Bob) of Deep River, Ontario, Canada, and Tommy Tatum (Merry Bond), of Armuchee, GA. Three grandchildren Mary Tatum Hudson (Donald), William Tatum (Jessica Nichols), and Russell Restall (Amanda DeSerres). Thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, and loved by many nieces, nephews and neighbors.
She was also predeceased by sisters Helen Franklin, Hazel Franklin, Hazel Puckett, and Stella Waters, one brother Jay B. Matthews, II and one granddaughter Regina Tatum Hopkins.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 3:30 to 5:30 P.M.
Graveside service will be held Monday, February 6, 2012 at 4:00 pm at Wesley Presbyterian Cemetery at the Rabun Gap Nacoochee School. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gideon’s International Card Plan, PO Box 237, Walhalla, SC 29691.
