Vivian "Josette" Varnes

Vivian Josette Varnes, 84, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.

Josette worked as a bookkeeper for Rogers Farm and for Varnes Logging and Trucking. She retired as a Postmaster from the Grandin Florida Post Office. She was a member of Palatka Church of God and most recently she attended Church of the Mountains. When she was at Palatka Church of God she served as treasurer and music director.

It was said that she should have owned an ambulance company, because if anyone in the family or community was sick she was the first one there to lend a hand. She drove a school bus and worked two jobs to help her children through private school. Josette was an expert seamstress and would sew suits and wedding dresses. Her family was part of the Florida Founding Farmers.

She is survived by two children, Sheryl Webster (Steven) of Clayton, GA and Gregory Scott Rogers (Renee); grandchildren, Adam Rogers, Alicia Rogers, Caitlyn Phillips, Cristina Johnson and Thad Singletary; great grandchildren, Mark Johnson, Eli Johnson, Ryland Hinton, Jordyn Hawkins, Emery Phillips and Baylor Singletary; sisters, Genette Bernal (Dick) and Merlyn Crews; father of her children, Larry Rogers.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by two sisters, Sandra Floyd and Ann Dukes.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, at 12:00 pm at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Adam Wright officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 – 12:00 prior to the service at the funeral home.
