Troy Smith

Troy was born in Mount Airy GA on September 6th, 1941 to John Hoyt Smith and Stella Weaver Smith. He attended Rabun County High School and joined the United States Army in 1958. After serving for six years, he was honorably discharged in 1964. An avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors, he enjoyed mostly spending time with his family. As a business owner in Rabun County, he was a well-respected pillar of the community.

Troy married the love of his life, Margaret “Suzy” Ramey in April of 1977 and resided in Rabun Gap since 1982. Troy was a family man who believed in treating others the way that he wanted to be treated and a belief to always look others in the eye and be true to your words, while treating them with respect. Troy was preceded in death by his father Hoyt Smith, infant sister Imergene Smith and mother Stella Wall. Troy is survived by his beloved wife Suzy Smith, sons Stanley Arrington of Fort Meyers, Florida, Michael Smith of Clayton GA, Shane Smith of Clayton GA, Timothy Smith of Winder GA, and Troy Lee Smith II of Rabun Gap and one daughter JoAnna Mize of Washington D.C. Troy’s brothers and sisters left to carry his memory are Earl B. Smith of Lakemont GA, Margie S. Ledford of Lawrenceville GA, R. Madge Dickerson of Washington GA, Jimmy Wall of Tiger GA, Tony Wall of Rabun Gap GA and Janie W. Koch of Clayton GA. Troy has 11 wonderful grandchildren whom he loved dearly, and 9 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be at 4:00 P.M. Friday January 25, 2019 at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home wirh Rev. Mark Gerrells officiating. Following the service the body will be cremated.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends Friday January 25, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. to 4: 00 P.M. (the service hour). The family is at the home on Troy Lane Rabun Gap, GA.
