Thomas Joe Gordon, 83, of Gordon Lane in the Chechero Community, RT, 3 Clayton died Thursday evening December 10, 2009 in Gainesville, Ga.
Born May 29, 1926 in Clay County, North Carolina he was the son of the late Jim and Dessie Thomas Gordon. He had spent the past 65 years in Clayton.
He was the widower of Ruth Ramey Gordon; He was an employee of the city of Clayton for many years until he retired. He was an avid “coon” hunter and belonged to the “Coon” Hunters Club and was a member of the Chechero Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Alice Gordon; by brothers, Jackie and frank Gordon and by sisters, Louellen Prince, Annie Taylor, Viola Hunter, and Hazel Davidson, and is survived by three sons and two Daughters-in-law, T.J. and Christine Gordon of Clayton, Wayne and Susan Gordon of Rabun Gap, and Curtis Gordon of Clayton. Four daughters and three sons-in-law, Wilma Gordon of Clayton, Inez and Ivan Bower of Clayton, Ruby and Larry Gipson of Clayton and Anna and James Findley of Seneca, SC. Four brothers, Lee Gordon of Paris, Tenn., John Gordon of Turnerville, Ga., Bill Gordon of Travellers Rest, SC and Bob Gordon of Clayton, Four sisters, Mary McGaha of Franklin, NC., Estella Littleton of Toccoa, Ga., Sue Trotman of Clarkesville, Ga., and Jean Christy of Gainesville. Fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great- grandchildren along with several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday December 13, 2009 at the Chechero Baptist Church with Rev. Milton Wilbanks, Rev. Steve Townsend, Rev. Mike Wilson and Layman Lloyd Hunter Officiating. Rev. Doug Porter will conduct the Graveside Service.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday December 12, 2009. The body will be placed in the Church at 1:00 P.M. Sunday to lie in state. The Family is at the home on Gordon Lane in the Chechero Community RT. 3, Clayton. Hunter Funeral Home is in Charge of arrangements.
