Stella Mason Lakey, 90, of Mountain City, Georgia., widow of Nelson Lakey, died Thursday evening November 20, 2014 in Highlands, North Carolina.
Born in Macon County, North Carolina., April 27, 1924 in the Tellico Community, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Maude Bolin Mason and was married to Nelson Lakey for 64 years, when he died in 2007.
Mrs. Lakey was a homemaker and had worked at Burlington Industries, at Harper’s 5 and 10 and was a caregiver at Mountain City. She was a member of the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher, a nursery volunteer and helped with Lottie Moon Christmas Offerings. She most enjoyed having her children and grandchildren in Church with her.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Lakey Holt and her husband, Carl; by sisters, Eunice Cole and Ethel Mason, by brothers, Erastus Mason, Jesse Mason, Wayne Mason and Ray Mason, and is survived by two sons; Ronald Lakey (Phyllis) of Monroe, GA., and Dane Lakey (Gaye) of Rabun Gap, GA. One daughter, Patricia Michko (Jack) of Salem, SC. Seven grandchildren; Michael Holt, Vickie Holt Derrick, Deanna Lakey Gunter, Gary Lakey, Robin Lakey Dills, Lynn Lakey Billingsley and Emily Michko. Twelve great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be at 2:30 P.M. Sunday November 23, 2014 at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church with Rev. Judson Hall officiating. The body will be taken to the church at 1:30 P.M. Sunday where visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. (The Funeral Hour). The family is at their respective residences.
