Schley H. Burrell, Sr., 87, of Warwoman Road, Clayton, Georgia died Thursday December 15, 2011 at his home.
Schley was born May 11, 1924 in Cornelia, Georgia to Carl and Jura Foster Burrell. He was the widower of Eloise Chapman Burrell. Schley was a retired D.O.T. Regional Engineer with the State of Georgia. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW 2, and a member of American Legion Post 220 of Clayton where he was a former Commander of Post 220. He had served two terms as a Rabun County Commissioner and was a former Rotarian. He was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday _School Class. Several years ago he served as Superintendent of the Sunday school.
Besides his wife and parents, He was preceded in death by two sons; Schley H. (Sonny) Burrell, Jr. and Michael Burrell and by two brothers; Everett Burrell and Brabson Burrell. He is survived by a daughter Sherry Burrell Patrick and her husband, Mike of Alpharetta, GA., and by two brothers; Lyman Burrell of Dacula, GA., and Richard Burrell of Lilburn, GA. Six grandchildren and eleven great grand children.
Funeral Services will be Sunday December 18, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Clayton Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Thompson Officiating. Burial will follow in Rabun Memory Park.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 5 To 8 P.M. Saturday December 17, 2011. The body will be placed in the Church at 1:00 P.M. Sunday to lie in state.
The Family is at the home on Warwoman, Road.
Family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial be made, is his honor, to the American Cancer Society, 2565 Thompson Bridge Road, Suite 114, Gainesville, GA. 30501
