Rose-Mary Hatfield, 87 died Friday April 9, 2010 at Highlands Cashiers Hospital of natural causes. A Memorial Service will be held 11 AM. Saturday, April 17, 2010 at the Estaoah Wayfarers Unity Center Dillard, Georgia, and Rev. Ron Lindahn will officiate.
Rose-Mary Burkart Hatfield was born June 14 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio as a child, she moved to Miami, Florida with her parents Frank and Ellen Burkart where she lived, with frequent visits to family in Akron and Cleveland, Ohio. Her father was a construction contractor involved in the early development of Miami after the 1926 hurricane. She graduated from Miami Edison High School Class of 1940, and Indiana University in 1945 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
Rose-Mary married Milton (Duke) H. Hatfield in 1945 in Quincy, Massachusetts. They moved to Miami where she was a homemaker and he completed his degree at the University of Miami. Later, he became a CPA and a partner for what is now Price Waterhouse Coopers. They had three Children, and lived in North Miami until 1980. Following his retirement they built a home in the mountains, and moved to Sky Valley, Georgia where they lived until the present.
She was an active member of Miami Unity Church and worked with various charities and Fairfield Gardens. She attended classes in Lee Summit, Missouri and graduated as a licensed Unity Teacher. In 1986 she was founder and Minister of the Estatoah Wayfarers Unity Center in Dillard, Georgia. The original Sanctuary was an old rustic cabin she had moved out next to a river and over the years expanded.
Rose-Mary is survived by her daughter Ellen Hatfield, granddaughter Karoline Hatfield, son Alan Hatfield and his wife Margaret, and grandson, Ryan Hatfield and she was preceded in death by her husband, and son, Bruce Hatfield.
Rose-Mary’s life touched many through her kindness, Compassion, and gentleness. She will be missed greatly by her family and everyone who knew her.
