Robert John Levins, lovingly referred to as “Shag” or “Bob.”, went to be with his Lord on the evening of August 12th, 2018. He put up a great fight, against all odds, to stay here with his loving wife and family, but God called him home. He was able to stay in their home during his illness and was always surrounded by love.
Born in Stockton, Illinois, “Santa Bob” (as he was known to many people) resided in that town until he joined the Army and served our country in the Korean Conflict. This is where he learned to operate a crane and this trade served him well over the years, as his primary career.
Over the years he lived in California, Jacksonville, FL, Germantown, TN and Clayton, GA. He loved to laugh, tell jokes, tell stories, dance the Texas 2 Step, but best of all being Santa was his favorite. He had the beard, the hair, the belly, the laugh & smile, and most of all, the gentle, sweet nature to relate to everyone, young and old. His volunteer work during the Christmas holidays was known throughout the south eastern states, where he traveled to Nursing Homes, Children’s Homes, Cancer Clinics, Churches and Schools, etc., to be “Santa” for them…at his own expense, just to be able to give those folks a bit of Holiday Cheer from Santa.
Bob was married to the “love of his life,” Brenda. Together they have five wonderful sons, Robin Levins (Laurie) of Katy, Tx., Clay Levins (Lori) of Jacksonville, Fl., John Levins (Stephanie) of Wake Forest, NC. David Cook of Aspen, Colorado and Danny Cook of Asheville, NC., and seven precious grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was surrounded by all of their children and many friends during his last days.
Indeed, Santa Bob Levins will be sorely missed!
