Robert Grant Deal (Bob), also know as Dad, Granddad, and GranBob, passed away Thursday, January 16 after a brief battle with cancer.
Bob was born in 1942 in Rabun County to the late Harmon and Eula Deal as the sixth of ten children. He was predeceased by Raymond, Dorothy, Ray, EarleAnn and Helen. He is survived by, Randall (Alice), twins Ronnie and Ruth (Dave) and Oss (Nancy), sister-in-law Helena Deal and brother-in-law Jack McConnell, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Bob.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of almost 61 years, Betty, and their daughter Kim Cannon and his devoted son-in-law Johnny.
His greatest joy was the grandsons he leaves behind, Johnathon (Brooke), Reid (Kailey) and Jake (Kayla). He was GranBob to Scout and Colter Cannon and Madilyn and Cooper Kowalsky. GranBob also left instructions to spoil another great-grandson due in February.
After graduation from Rabun County High School, he attended Southern Tech and worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation in the co-op program. He later began an exciting career with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, during which time he graduated from Brenau University with a degree in Criminal Justice and Public Administration. Upon retirement, Bob worked part-time for the U.S. Marshals Service before becoming a probation officer for the city of Clayton. When he decided to retire a second time, Bob and Betty spent many wonderful years traveling which he loved almost as much as his career.
When he wasn't traveling Bob could be found on his Warwoman farm or his "shop" where he restored military vehicles, tractors or anything with a motor.
There isn't enough room to write about the love Bob had for his family, friends and community. He will be greatly missed but is rejoicing for eternity with his savior Jesus Christ.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sid Weber Cancer Fund or the Rabun County Public Library in honor of his lifetime love for reading.
