Richard A. Speed 85, Clayton, GA


Richard A. Speed, 85, of the Warwoman Community, Clayton, GA., died Saturday October 15, 2011 at Mtn. View Health Care.
Born May 24, 1926 in Rabun County, he was the son of the late Judson A. and Josie Goble Speed. He was a saw miller in the lumber industry and was employed in the textile industry for a period of time. He was a member of the Newman Chapel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Raymond C. Speed and Carroll L. Speed; by two brothers, Leroy Speed and Carlton Speed and by three sisters; Beulah Bleckley, Genelia Wise, and Cora Crowe. He is survived by his former wife, Dorothy Seay Speed; two sons, Richard Arthur Speed, Jr. and his wife Jewell of Clayton, GA., David Allen Speed of Clarkesville, GA.; three daughters, Patricia Gravley and her husband, Bill of Lakemont, GA., Joyce Chastain and her husband, Ernest of Dillard, GA., and Barbara Clark of Clarkesville, GA; one sister, Dorothy Whitmire, Clayton, GA.; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Monday October 17, 2011 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Gravley and Rev. Danny Cannon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends, Sunday night October 16, 2011 from 6 to 8 PM. The family is at their respective residences.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons in-laws.
Hunter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
