Rebecca Ruth Darnell Cannon was born on December 1, 1943 to the late John Raymond “Buck” Darnell and the Ruth Bingham Darnell and passed away on June 20, 2024. She married John Henry Cannon III on June 21, 1963.
In her teenage years, Becky was employed at the Dillard House. She later worked at Clayburn Manufacturing also known as the shirt factory. In the early 1970’s, she was employed by the Rabun County Board of Education as a Speech Aid, Teacher’s Assistant, and bus driver. She was the first female bus driver in Rabun County. She was one of the first employees of The Stockton House Restaurant. She and her husband Sonny were co-owners of Cannon Furniture in Clayton where they retired in 2018.
Becky had a heart for children and enjoyed teaching Bible school and Sunday school, and was a den mother. She was a walking testimony of her Christian faith as was apparent in her hundred of part-time children on her school route. She loved them as her own and gave unselfishly to make sure they had what they needed. She always gave them a special treat on the last day of school and made each one feel loved.
Becky most enjoyed spending time with her family. She also loved any time spent outside whether in her flowers, taking pictures, or sticking her feet in Warwoman Creek.
Becky enjoyed attending church and did so as often as she could. When she wasn’t there in person, she was tuned in on her computer. She loved the Lord and had no fear, for she knew where she was going when she left this world. We are at peace knowing she is sitting with her Lord and Savior.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin sister, Virginia Sue (Ginnie) Darnell, brothers Jim Darnell, George Darnell, David Darnell, Freddie Darnell and Wayne Darnell.
Becky is survived by her husband, John Henry “Sonny” Cannon, son Johnny Cannon (Kim), Daughter Tammy Cannon Gragg (Benson). Grandchildren Johnathon Cannon (Brooke), Reid Cannon (Kailey), Tristan Huggins (Kaily), Jake Cannon (Kayla), Chason Huggins (Ansley), Zach Gragg (Jen), Cali Mathis (Levi). Great grandchildren Scout Cannon, Madilyn Kowalsky, Colter Cannon, Cooper Kowalsky. Brothers Bill Darnell, Reid Darnell, and Frank Darnell. Sisters Mary Jamison, Patti Gowens and Diane Stowe. Becky is also survived by multiple nieces, nephews and cousins as well as countless friends and family. Becky was a friend to every person she ever met. She had a kind heart, a warm smile – and a love for – every person.
