Ouida Maney

Ouida Brackin Maney, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2016, at home in Locust Grove, Georgia.

Ouida was born on December 7, 1932, to Mattie Aycock Brackin and Lee Ellis Brackin, in Longview, Mississippi.

She developed many interests as a young lady. Her faith in God above all, her love for her family, friends and country, and her appreciation for music made her the woman she was.
She met the love of her life, Wilbur (Bill) Maney in San Angelo, Texas. Following the proposal about two years later, Ouida married Wilbur on November 20, 1953.

Shortly after the birth of their first daughter they returned to Georgia and eventually settled in Dillard Georgia for 27 years. They moved to Tignall for the next 25 years, during which Ouida retired as a United States Postmaster. Lastly, they moved to Locust Grove four years ago to be closer to family and have developed dear friendships at their church and local senior center.

Ouida was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Carol, and her sister, Ann Gilbreath. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Wilbur; her 3 children and their spouses: Bill & Linda Maney, Debra & Greg Smith, and Ruth & Dennis Strickland; her 6 grandsons: Clay (Shawna), Greg (wife, Ashley), Morris, Alex (wife, Amanda), Jelani, and A.J.; her 2 great-granddaughters, Dakota, and Alissa; her brothers and their spouses: James & Wanda Smith, Jerry & Helen Brackin, and Ronnie & Betsy Brackin; her sister-in-law, Roberta Copeland, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held on August 6, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Locust Grove, located at 2950 Tanger Blvd., Locust Grove, GA 30248. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Locust Grove. The burial will take place at the cemetery of Tignall Baptist Church on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., located at 170 S Hulin Ave, Hwy 17, Tignall, GA 30668.
