Max Welton Watts, age 87, of Tiger, GA passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at his residence.
He was born on March 19, 1935, in Rabun County to the late John M. Watts and Beulah Bramblett Watts and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his loving wife, Edith Cantrell Watts. Max was a long-time member of Rocky Grove Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. He retired from A.I.D Corp where he was a machinist, and he also invented several airplane parts while employed there. Max was a County Commissioner for Rabun County for 24 years and was a founding member of the Rabun County Historical Society.
Max is survived by two sons, John M. Watts (Elena) of Clayton, GA, and Kyle L. Watts (Sabrona) of Tiger, GA; three daughters, June Littrell (Glen) of Tiger, GA, Pam Beck (Fred) of Tiger, GA, and Laura Holt (Shayne) of Tiger, GA; 14 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and siblings he was preceded in death by two sons, Mike, and Mark Watts, and one great-granddaughter, Payton Taylor.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 19, 2022, at 11:00am at Rocky Grove Baptist Church with Pastor Kyle Watts, Pastor Joe McCrackin and Pastor Rusty Wolfrey officiating. Burial will follow the service at Rocky Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 18, 2022, at Hunter Funeral Home from 2:00 – 4:00pm.
