Martha Jane Rogers, 63 of Clayton, Died Wednesday July 29, 2009 at Mountain Lakes Medical Center. She was born in Rabun County December 27, 1945 to Logan Lafayette Rogers and Bernice Queen Rogers. She was employed in the Textile Industry for several years. She was a member of the Black Rock Baptist Church but attended the Battle Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a son, Greg Welch. And by a baby sister Carolyn Rogers.
Surviving Her are two daughters and sons-in-law, Belinda Welch Turpin and Everiest, and Tammy Rogers Speed, and Gary, both of Clayton. One daughter-in-law Cinda Welch of Clayton. Four brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Martha Queen of Tiger, Georgia. Junior Rogers of Toccoa, Georgia. Bill and Deanna Rogers of Greenville, South Carolina. and Hershel Rogers, of Mountain City. One sister, Mary Ruth Swafford of Westminster, South Carolina. Five Grandchildren, Gregory Welch of Homer, Georgia. Natasha Welch Thompson, Craig Turpin and Clarissa and Ben Speed all of Clayton. One Great Granddaughter, Adelynn Thompson. Several Nephews, Nieces and Cousins also survive.
Funeral Services will be at 4:00 P.M. Saturday August 1, 2009 at Battle Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Madison McCrackin and Rev. Hugh Walden Officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Heights Cemetery. The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Friday Night July 31, 2009. The body will be placed in the Church at 3:00 P.M. Saturday August 1, 2009 to lie in State. The family is at home of her daughter Tammy Speed on Number Ten Lane, Clayton.
