Margaret Wood

Margaret Versell (Wood) Wood, 89, of Scaly Mountain, North Carolina, and Widow of Rev. Vernon Wood, died Saturday September 28, 2013 in Highlands-Cashiers Hospital in Highlands, North Carolina.

Born in Piedmont, South Carolina, June 7, 1924, she was the daughter of the late George Tillman Wood and Bessie Collins Wood. She was a Seamstress in the textile industry, a homemaker and worked in various departments of the Church of God where her husband, Rev. Vernon V. Wood was a minster of the gospel for 59 years of their 61 married years. She was a member of the Scaly Mountain Church of God.

Mrs. Wood is survived by one son, Doyle Wood (Judy) of Fayetteville, NC., twin daughters, Martha Bass (David) of Asheville, NC, Margaret Lackey (Rev. Ron Lackey) of Concord, NC. Six grandsons, David Bass, Jr., (Jamie) of Knoxville, TN. Twins Wayne Bass of San Diego, CA, Alan Bass (Holly) of San Diego, CA., R. Reed Lackey, Jr. (Jennifer), of Los Angeles, CA., Joshua Wood (Ashley) of Falls Church, VA., Colin Wood of Fayetteville, NC. One granddaughter, Christy Versell Simmons (Gregg) of Concord, NC. Seven great grandchildren Grace, Luke, John and Drake Bass, Landon and Peyton Simmons and Sawyer Lackey. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home, and friends may call at the funeral home between 12:00 noon and 3:00 P.M. Tuesday October 1, 2013. The body will be taken to the Prentiss Church of God near Franklin, North Carolina, where family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. The funeral will be at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Dr. Bill Sheeks and Eleanor Sheeks, Mamie A. Barwick, Rev. Al Sizemore, Rev. Andre Hester and Rev. Jimmy Smith. Burial will follow Wednesday October 2, 2013, after a graveside service at 1:00 P.M. at West View Cemetery in Easley, South Carolina. Officiating in the graveside service will be Rev. Jerry Chitwood, Rev. Paul Collins and Rev. Ron Lackey.

The family is at the home in Scaly Mountain, North Carolina. Family accepts flowers but asks that if memorial donations are made, make them to the Scaly Mountain Church of God, P.O. Box 100, Scaly Mountain, North Carolina. 28775.
