Leonard Bartow Hollifield 85, Tiger, GA


Leonard Bartow Hollifield, 85, of Hollifield Connector Rd., Tiger, GA., died Tuesday August 5, 2008 at Mountain Lakes Medical Center.
Born October 18, 1922 in Rabun County, he was the son of the late Ben and Lizzie Callenback Hollifield. He was a retired Correctional Officer with the State of Georgia. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW2, serving with the See Bees in the South Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Post 220 in Rabun County. He was a member of the Battle Branch Baptist Church.
His wife, Mary Ann Parker Hollifield, preceded him in death in 2005, after 59 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd L. Hollifield and by a great granddaughter, Marideth.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law- Parker and Joan Hollifield of Tiger, GA. and one daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Alvin Smith of Tiger, GA. Four grand children- Leigh Ann Smith-Guevara, Ryan L. Smith, Benjamin J. Hollifield and Samantha J. Hollifield. Three great-grand children- Benjamin Guevara, Hailey Smith and Lyndee Hollifield, One sister Burnice H. Treadwell of Whtesburg,Ga also survives.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Friday August 8, 2008 at the Battle Branch Baptist Church with Rev. Madison McCrackin and Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Persimmon Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 AM to lie in state. The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends form 7 to 9 PM Thursday August 7, 2008. The family is at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Alvin Smith on Hollifield Connector Road in Tiger.
