John Lewis 75, Homer, GA


John Lewis “Bud” Speed, 75, of Homer, GA., formerly of Clayton, Georgia, died Thursday, November 18, 2010, in Lawrenceville, GA.
A native of Rabun County, he was born September 4, 1935. He was a son of the late Lewis Shirley and Annie Mae Moore Speed. Mr. Speed had spent most of his life in the Atlanta area. He was a Production Supervisor in the Metal Fabrication industry and was a member of the Buford Hwy Baptist Church in Doraville, GA.
Mr. Speed was preceded in death by a great grandson, Jackson Lammey and two sisters, Joan and Mildred Speed.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Bleckley Speed of the home; two sons, Mike Speed and wife Sharon of Homer, GA Larry Speed of Mount Airy, GA; two daughters, Brenda Speed of Lawrenceville, GA, Kay Mayo of Dacula, GA; five brothers, Jim Speed of Lithia Springs, GA, Bill Speed of Dillard, GA, Eddie Speed of Franklin, NC, Dale Speed of South Carolina, and Wesley Speed of Clarkesville, GA; five sisters, Mary Page of Clayton, GA, Jean Gittens of Dallas, GA, Judy Harris of Rockmart, GA, Linda Pate of Lithonia, GA and Lena Hatcher of Comer, GA.; ten grandchildren, Jason Mark, Lydia and Ryan Speed, Kelley Lammey, Leah Perry, Aaron, Adam, Anna and Abigail Mayo.; five great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Caroline, and Jacob Speed, Emma Mayo and Eli Lammey. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home and will be placed in the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Friday, November 19, 2010, where the family will receive friends from 6 PM until 9 PM. The family will be at their respective homes.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Page, Eddie Mayo, Wesley Speed and Lamar Gittens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
