John Henry (Jadie) Cannon 94, Clayton, GA


J.H. (Jadie) Cannon , 94 of Hemlock Lane, Clayton , Ga. died Saturday Night Jan. 10 , 2009 at Mountain Lakes Medical Center .
Born in Rabun County March 2 , 1914 , he was the son of the late John Henry Cannon , Sr. and Celia Ann Phillips Cannon.He was the widower of Christine Wood (Red)Cannon. He was a well known and loved Native and Businessman (Cannon Furniture Co.) of Clayton . He served on the City of Clayton Council for several years. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and was at Normandy Beach Head on D – day and Omaha Beach Head on June 5, 1944 . He served as a Medic, 2nd Class and as a Pharmacy 1st Mate , 2nd Class . He was the 1st Commander of the American Legion Post 220 of Clayton when it was organized following WWII. He was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon for over 60 years.
Surviving are a son and daughter- in-law Sonny and Becky Cannon of Clayton and a daughter, Claudia C. Staton of Blue Ridge , Ga. , a sister , Carobel Cannon Prince of Hawkinsville , Ga. Four grand children , nine great grand children and one great great grand-daughter also survives .
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday January 13 , 2009 at the Clayton Baptist Church with Rev. Wren Worley , Rev. Billy Harris and Rev. Larry Cannon officiating . Rev. Dr. Joe Nichols will officiate at Graveside. Burial will be in Roan Cemetery with Military Honors.
The body will be taken to the Clayton Baptist Church at 5:00 P.M. Monday January 12 , 2009 where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 P.M. The family is at the home of his son and daughter-in-law , Sonny and Becky Cannon on Hemlock Lane , Clayton , Ga.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Mountain City Church of God Building Fund , Po Box 299 , Mt City , Ga. 30562.
