James Earl (Smitty) Smith, 88, of Gipson Lane, Lakemont, GA, died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center
Born September 6, 1921 in Rabun County he was a son of the late Virgil Jackson and Ellen Elizabeth Smith. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII, a retired Plumber and Pipe Fitter for Burlington, Industries, a member of the D.A.V., and member of Joy Baptist Church.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister, he was the oldest and last member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Reba E. Smith of the Home, one son and daughter-in-law Ernie and Joann Smith of Clayton, GA, one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Danny Flory of Clayton, GA, five grand children, Cody Smith, Jesse Smith, Kasi Flory, Nate Flory and Kortney Flory and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at the Joy Baptist Church with Rev. John Gipson and Rev. Tony Goss officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM Tuesday, March 9, 2010. The family is at the home of his daughter-in-law Becky and Danny Flory in the Five Points Community.
