James W. “Jimmy” Osborne, Sr. 96, of Persimmon Road, Clayton, Georgia., died Sunday July 20, 2014 at his home in the Persimmon Community.
He was born July 1, 1918 in Fitzgerald, Georgia to Olen Effie Osborne and Bessie Frances Farnell Osborne, and had spent most of his life in Jacksonville, Florida and had been in Rabun County for past 32 years. He was the widower of Willie Ray Osborne. Mr. Osborne was a printer by trade. He served with the First Cavalry Division in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II and was awarded the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry in action. He was a member of the Persimmon Baptist Church. He was the last member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty one years, Willie Ray Osborne, in 2006; two sisters, Effie Louise Zigler and Ella Elizabeth Mauldin, two brothers, Alford Lomax Osborne and Harry Johnson Osborne all of Jacksonville, FL., and is survived by children, Frances Joanne Meuse, Raymond Lloyd Osborne and James W. Osborne, Jr. Ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren and four great great great grandchildren also survive.
Memorial services will be Wednesday July 23, 2014 at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home at 5:00 P.M. with Rev. James Wright officiating. Cremation will follow the service.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. (The Funeral Hour). The family is at home on Persimmon Road.
