It is with great sadness and cherished memories that we announce the passing of James Hoyt McCoy, affectionately known as Jim, at the age of 86. Jim left this world peacefully after a long struggle with COPD.
Born into a loving family as one of eight siblings, Jim’s parents Ulyses and Alice McCoy raised their children with a strong sense of family and hard work. Jim shared a 65-year marriage with his wife, Mary Jane. Together, they built a loving home, and Jim was a devoted father to five children: Judy (Jeff) Hurndon, David (Tracy) McCoy, Alice McCoy, and his late daughter Debbie McCoy and son James. His five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren have filled his heart with much joy.
With a deep appreciation for the great outdoors, Jim found peace while hunting and fishing. He was wise about plants and animals, home remedies and was able to do just about anything he set his mind to. Each year, he planted and tended a large garden, working tirelessly to provide for his family and shared the overflow. A lover of good westerns, he was equally known for his sharp wit and infectious sense of humor, making laughter a part of every day.
Jim dedicated his life to hard work, with years of farming at the Dillard House before managing the Sky Valley golf course until he retired. His strong work ethic and kind-hearted nature left a lasting imprint on everyone who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and beloved children, Debbie and James, as well as his grandson, James Pineo, Jim leaves behind a legacy filled with love and laughter. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of close friends who felt like family.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His funeral will be held at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home in Clayton, Georgia, on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Harvey Conner officiating. Burial will follow at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Hunter Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to a charity of your choice.
Rest in peace, Jim. You were truly one of a kind. Hunter Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Jim McCoy.
