Hoyt Michael Penland, 25, of Rabun Gap, Georgia. Passed away on Thursday July 23, 2009. Hoyt was a true shining star whose light burnt out far too soon. Hoyt loved sharing Christ with others especially through his engaging stories. He was passionate about following in his fathers footsteps as an ATV racer. Hoyt’s racing provided him with the outlet of fulfillment and pride he so cherished. Through one of these adventures, in Baja, Hoyt severely injured his leg. The trials of his injuries, surgeries and recovery took him through many peaks and valleys. He is now at peace in the arms of God.
Hoyt is survived by his parents, Mike and Wanda Penland, of Rabun Gap. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law: Chrissy and Richard Clarke of Clayton and Sarah and Jerry Robinson of Mazatlan, Mexico. He is also survived by a paternal grandmother, Laura Hunnicutt Penland, and a maternal grandmother Rosa Lee Shook. One aunt, Kathy Crane, three uncles- Morris Penland, John Crane and Randy Shook, and many, many loving friends, fellow racers and extended family.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday July 28, 2009. At the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Franklin and Rev. Jimmie Kilby Officiating. Burial will be in the Hunnicutt Family Cemetery with Military Honors, by the DAV Unit in Cornelia, Georgia.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 to 9 P.M. Monday July 27, 2009. The family is at home on York House Rd, Rabun Gap, Ga. Flowers are acceptable - Memorial Donations may be made to Rider Foundation at www.riderdown.org
