Homer Parker

Homer W. Parker, 91, of Highway 76 West, Clayton, Georgia., died Sunday December 29, 2013 at his residence.

He was born in Rabun County August 16, 1922 to Connis Parker and Josie Hopper Parker. He was the husband of Janie Phillips Parker. They were married after WWII for 67 wonderful years. He was a U.S. Army Sergeant in WWII serving in the European Theatre. He received the following medals ; the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, WWII Victory Medal, EAME Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and belonged to the Northeast Georgia “Coon Hunters Club”. He was of the Baptist Faith.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step mother; Leila Mae Kilby Parker and by sisters; Tessie Thompson, Lois Thompson, Blanche Thurmond and Connie Mae Coleman, and is survived by his wife, Janie Phillips Parker of the home- two sons, Cecil Parker (Joyce) of Cornelia, GA., and Greg Parker (Lora) of Clayton. Two daughters; Sherry Parker Buck (Danny) of Jefferson, GA., and Sandra Parker of Clayton. One sister, Ruth Coleman of Clayton. Eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday December 31, 2013 at the New Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in Rabun Memory Park, Tiger, Georgia.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Monday December 30, 2013. The family is at home on HWY. 76 W. Clayton. The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made, in his memory, to “Trout Unlimited” Rabun County Chapter P.O. Box 371, Clayton, GA. 30525 Attn: Tony Allred.
