Rev. Herschel H. Hopkins, 77, of Hwy 76 East, Clayton, GA., died Monday, May 25, 2009 at his residence.
Born in Rabun County September 21, 1931 he was the son of the late Robert and Susie Smith Hopkins. He was a Baptist minister and had pastured area churches. He was an automobile mechanic and was a Korean war veteran, and was a member of of the Chechero Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years; Beth Woodall Hopkins of the home, one son and a daughter-in-law; Mike and Tina Hopkins of Tiger, GA, one brother; Haskell Hopkins of Lakemont, GA, one sister; Dorothy Mason of Oviedo,Florida, two grandchildren; Drew and and Amy Hopkins of Tiger, GA.
He was preceded in death by a sister; Reba Mize.
The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the Chechero Baptist Church with Rev. Milton Wilbanks and Rev. Mike Wilson officiating.
The family is at the home and will receive friends at Chechero Baptist Church from 1 PM until service time Saturday, May 30, 2009.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 2565 Thompson Bridge Road Suite 114, Gainesville, GA 30501.
