George Hernlen

George Frank (Jerky) Hernlen, Jr. 80, died Friday May 17, 2013 in Mtn. View Health Care. Born in Augusta, GA, June 6, 1932 he was the son of the late George Frank Hernlen, Sr. and Katie Bell Reece Hernlen. He graduated from Daytona Beach High School and reared his family there. He was retired from Florida Power and Light Company. He was a Catholic. He was an Eagle Scout and was a member of the Spring Lake Community in Dillard, GA. He was a US Marine Veteran of the Korean conflict.

He was preceded in death by a grandson and by a sister, Betty Dittman and is survived by a son, George Tracy Hernlen of Spring Lake, Dillard, GA; three daughters Lavon Mullins of Port Orange, FL and Sheila Cranfill and Betty Lou Hernlen both of Spring Lake, Dillard, GA. Five grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be at 2:00 PM, Monday May 20, 2013 at the Sky Valley Chapel. Dr. John Erbelding will conduct the service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to local hospices.
