Genelia Welch Cheek, 71, Clayton, Ga.
Genelia Welch Cheek, 71, of Canton, Ga., formerly of Rabun County, and affectionately known to her family and friends as “Neil”, died Saturday evening December 26, 2009 at her home.
Born in Rabun County October 16, 1938 she was the daughter of the late John Welch, Sr and Nellie Webb Welch. She was the widow of John Cheek. She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of the Mountain City Church of God.
She was preceded in death by a grandson; Trenton Welch and by two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by one son and his wife, Ronnie and Kathy Welch of Canton, Georgia. One daughter and her husband, Angie and Kenneth McCracken of Lakemont, Georgia. One brother: John Welch, Jr. of Mountain City, Georgia, and one sister, Molly Henslee of Rabun Gap, Georgia.
Five grandchildren: Ronald Wyatt Welch, Brittany Taylor, Ethon McCracken, William McCracken and Holly Poole. Three great grandchildren also survive and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday December 29, 2009 at 2:00 PM at the Taylor’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Conner and Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery.
The body is at Hunter Funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 PM Monday December 28, 2009. The body will be placed in the church at 1:00 PM Tuesday to lie in state. The family is at the home on Keever Worley Rd., Lakemont, Georgia.
