Dr. Everard J. “Rod” Siller
Rod Siller, M.D., 82, of Scaly Mt., N.C. died March 12, 2015 at his home surrounded by friends, following a long illness.
Born on August 29, 1932 to Everado Siller and Elizabeth Crawford Bell, he was raised partly in Tennessee but spent most of his formative years in the rural area around Atlanta. He attended Marist High School and later, Marist Seminary preparing for an expected life in priesthood. In addition to studying theology and languages such as Greek and Latin, he also majored in music and physics and later taught science at Marist. A man uncommon intelligence, Dr. Siller earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. During his time in Augusta, he played flute with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra. Following his medical degree, Dr. Siller earned a specialty in neurology from Harvard Medical School and completed his internship and residency in San Antonio and Oklahoma City. He subsequently entered private medical practice with a neurology group in Macon, GA., for many years until taking a sabbatical and entering the Monastery of The Holy Spirit in Conyers, GA., where he had planned to take his monastic vows. After several years in the monastery, he returned to medical practice in Macon until his retirement to Scaly Mt. in 1990.
Dr. Siller was a valued member of St. Helena Catholic Church in Clayton where he was a leader, advisor, mentor and “computer engineer” and was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Memorial Services will be held at St. Helena Catholic Church Wednesday March 18, 2015 at 11:00 A.M.
Dr. Siller is survived by one brother, Harold Bell of Hilton Head, S.C. and a cousin, Patti Church of Booneville, N.C. The body has been cremated. In lieu of flowers, contributions made to St. Helena Church’s Columbarium Fund, P.O. Box 534 Clayton, GA. 30525
