Edward Giles, 89, Clayton, Ga.


Edward Giles, 89, of Cross Street, Clayton, Georgia. Died Saturday November 14, 2009 in VA Medical Center, Asheville, NC.
Born in Rabun County July 31, 1920, he was the son of the late Almon and Mary Burrell Giles. He was a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry. He was a US. Army Veteran of WW2, a member of the American Legion, Post 220 of Clayton and participated in many Military Funerals since WW2. He was a member of the Taylor’s Chapel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gisele Thomas Giles and a son, Claude Giles; also by four brothers; Virgil, Claude, Willie and Silas Giles, and by a sister Iva Giles. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Hugh Alexander of Martin, Ga. three granddaughters, Tracy Shope of Alpharetta, Ga., Claudette Gillispie and her husband, Rance of Statesboro, Ga., Chantal Whiten of Martin, Ga., and three great grandchildren. Several nieces, cousins and great nephews and great nieces also survive.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday November 18, 2009 at the Taylor’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. John Gipson and Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by DAV. Unit # 15.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday November 17, 2009. The body will be placed in the Church at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday to lie in state.
The family is at the home of his niece and nephew Edith and Rev. John Gipson on Gipson Lane off Connector Rd. in Lakemont.
Hunter Funeral Home is in Charge of arrangements.
