Donald Melton

Donald Melton, 80, died peacefully at his home in Tiger early Saturday morning, June 14, 2014, with caregiver Belinda Whitmire, brother Easton Melton, sister-in-law Peggy Melton and Father Steve Hall at his side.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Eston “Skeet” and Laura “Icky” Melton, and by his wife Henrietta “Penny” Melton. Don is survived by his brother Easton Melton, Jr., his sister-in-law Peggy Melton and a number of cousins, nephews and nieces.

Don was born June 22, 1933, in Avon Park, Florida, and graduated from high school in 1951 at Gordon Military College in Barnesville, Georgia. Don served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and moved with his wife, Penny to Mountain City in 1974. Don served a term as Mayor of Mountain City and was a member of the Tiger City Council. He was a past President of the Clayton Rotary Club and was active in both the Methodist and Episcopal churches.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. James Episcopal Church Outreach Fund, P.O. Box 69, Clayton, Georgia 30525.
