D.L. Whitmire

D.L. (Slim) Whitmire, 92, of North Valley Street, Clayton, Georgia., died Thursday January 23, 2014 at his residence.

He was born in Rabun County July 27, 1921 to the late Andy and Ethel Speed Whitmire. He was a rancher, worked seed and feed stores and was a farmer. Slim could do most anything. He was a member of Taylor’s Chapel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mamie Lee Whitmire a son, Larry Whitmire, two grandsons, David Lee Whitmire and Anthony Burrell and by three sisters; Lavina Dixon, Lucy Thompson, and Frances Dixon. And is survived by four sons, Buddy Whitmire (Delila) of Rabun Gap, GA., David Whitmire (Judith) Clayton, GA., Rev. Bobby Whitmire (Sharon) Dahlonega, GA., and Ronald Whitmire, Tiger, GA., two daughters, Catherine Burrell Clayton, and Susan Burrell (Rev. Thomas) Clayton. A very special granddaughter and caregiver, Melissa/Lizard’’ Burrell White of Clayton, GA., one sister, Mildred Southards, Mt. City, GA. Fifteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Also one daughter-in-law, Jerry Whitmire, one sister-in-law, Athelene Waters.

Funeral Services will be Saturday January 25, 2014 at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Kilby, Rev. Chris York and Rev. Thomas Burrell (a very special son-in-law) officiating. Burial will be in Timpson Cove Cemetery.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday January 24, 2014. The family is at the home on North Valley Street, Clayton. Family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made, in his memory, to Hunter Funeral Home, P.O. Box 653, Clayton, GA. 30525 to aid in funeral expenses.
