David Vaughan

David M. Vaughan, of Lake Burton, Georgia., passed away peacefully on December 5, 2016 following a long illness.

Mr. Vaughan was born November 19, 1934 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to parents, Margaret (Pilcher) and Major General Harry H. Vaughan. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Viola Matthews Vaughan; three daughters, Karen McManus (David), Jennifer Vaughan, and Rebecca Vaughan (Michael Cruz); and two grandchildren, Meghan and Patrick McManus. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet L. Vaughan.

Mr. Vaughan grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and in Alexandria, Virginia while his father served as the military aide to President Harry S. Truman. He graduated from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, serving as both a member and president of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, as well as student body president. Following college, Mr. Vaughan served honorably as a Captain in the Armed Forces Artillery and later, the National Guard.

After graduating from Georgetown Law School in 1960, Mr. Vaughan worked for the National Labor Relations Board in Atlanta, GA. He met his wife and raised his family in Atlanta, Where he worked for many years as a management labor attorney and retired as a senior partner with the law firm of Elarbee, Thompson and Trapnell. Pursuing his love for the law even in retirement, he served as a Deputy Magistrate Judge in Rabun County for four years.

A memorial service for Mr. Vaughan will be held on Saturday January 7, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Nacoochee Presbyterian Church in Sautee, Georgia., where he was a member. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mr. Vaughan’s memory to Nacoochee Presbyterian Church. 260 Highway 255 N. Sautee Nacoochee, GA. 30571. If the weather is bad the memorial service will follow Sunday January 8, 2017 at 2:00 P.M.
