Curtis Shirley

Curtis Rayburn Shirley, 66, of M.J. Shirley Drive went home peacefully to be with his Lord with his family by his bedside Tuesday morning December 10, 2013.

Born in Rabun County March 24, 1947, he was the son of the late M.J. and Rose Holcomb Shirley. He was a carpenter and farmer and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Curtis was preceded in death by a brother, Dudley Shirley and by a sister, Peggy Shirley, and is survived by his loving wife married for 42 years, Bonnie Ledford Shirley of the home ; by one son, Curtis Jason Shirley of Clayton, two daughters, Elaina Beth Shirley and Lacey Nicole Shirley of Clayton and a special friend, Monica Carnes (Dear to the heart of the family). One brother, Wendell Shirley of Wiley, GA. Two sisters, Loraine Ramsey of Asheville, NC., and Lavonne Starnes of Gwinnett County, GA. six grandchildren, Curtis Taylor Shirley, Erika Carnes, Reid Shirley, Perryn Morgan, Alex Levit and Lainey Morgan.

The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday December 11, 2013.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday December 12, 2013 at The New Hunter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Wright and Rev. Jewell Gaines officiating. The body will be cremated following the service. The family is at home on M.J. Shirley Drive, Clayton. Family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made, in his memory, to Hunter Funeral Home, P.O. Box 653, Clayton, GA. 30525, to aid in funeral expenses and/or to the Rathburn Center, P.O. Box 5363 Asheville, NC. 28813-5363
