Clyde W. “Moody” Smith, 84, of O.V. Justus Road, Rabun Gap, Georgia., died Wednesday December 11, 2013 at his residence.
Born in Swain County, North Carolina., January 17, 1929, he was the son of the late Grover and Marjorie Gass Smith. He was the widower of Aderene Justus Smith. He retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of the Dillard Volunteer Fire Department; he was a coach of the Dillard / Rabun Gap little league basketball for twenty years. He was a member of the Betty’s Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for twenty years plus.
Moody is survived by two daughters; Charlene Smith Bennett (Bruce) of Lilburn, GA., and Cheryl Smith Redden (Clarence) of Rabun Gap, GA. Five brothers; Willard Smith of Dade County, FL, Wade Smith of Blairsville, GA., Grover Smith, Jr., of Young Harris, GA., Neville Smith of Young Harris and Paul Smith of Marietta, GA. One sister, Betty Brandall of Blairsville, GA., and three grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday December 20, 2013 at the Betty’s Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Smith and Greg Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the Church at 10:00 A.M. to lie-in-state.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday December 19, 2013. The family is at the home of his daughter and son-in-law Cheryl Redden (Clarence) on O.V. Justus Road, Rabun Gap, Georgia.
