Charlie Mac Dickerson, 96, of Maple Street, Clayton GA died Wednesday morning July 23, 2008 in Gainesvilles Georgia at Limestone Heritage. Born in Hart County Georgia on Feb. 8, 1912.
He was the son of the late Vester Cleveland Dickerson , Sr. and Minnie Hendricks Dickerson. He was the owner of Dickerson Hardware store for Sixty years and he won a award for being the oldest outstanding worker in Georgia. He was founding member of the Clayton Fire Department which started in 1930’s. He was a founding member of the Clayton Chamber of Commerce. He was a charter member of the Clayton Rotary Club with perfect attendance for 60 plus years. He was member of the Clayton First United Methodist Church for 84 years and served as Church Treasurer for 47 years. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Venice Ashley Dickerson, a son Charles M. Dickerson, Jr. , a daughter, Pamela Lynn Dickerson, a grandson Jeffery Scott Byrd, three brothers, Jute Dickerson, V.C. Dickerson, Jr, Hoke Dickerson and one sister, Doris Dickerson. He is survived by two daughters, Sonja Bowen of Clarkesville, GA , Patricia Smith of Destin, Fla , also one daughter in law Madge Dickerson English of Rabun Gap. Also one brother and sister in law, Ralph and Ernestine Dickerson of Clayton, GA. Grandchildren Brett Bowen of Woodstock , GA, David Byrd of Mobile, Ala, Lisa Dale, Christy Shelton and Clay Dickerson all of Clayton, Georgia. He also is survived by ten great grandchildren.,P. Funeral services will be Friday July 25, 4pm at the Clayton First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James E. Turpen and Rev. Carol Cook officiating. Burial will be in the Rabun Memory Park. The body is at Hunter Funeral Home and will be taken to the Clayton First United Methodist Church at 3:30 pm, Thursday, July 24 where family will receive friends from 3:30pm to 5:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Friends may call at the church from 9 am till 3 pm Friday July 25. The family is at the home on Maple Street. Flowers are acceptable however donations may be made to Clayton First United Methodist Church, PO Box 703 Clayton, GA and/or to the Clayton Rotary Club , Charlie Mac Scholarship Fund.
