Charles Malvin “Hoppy” Hopkins passed away early Friday morning , January 29 , 2016 in Fort Myers Florida.
Born August 12 , 1930 , in Clayton , Georgia , he was the son of the late Charlie Franklin (Hop) Hopkins and Lucy York Hopkins Hooper.
He is survived by his children Robert Hopkins (Mary) of Indiatiantic FL, Paddi Tranchina of Starkville, MS, Macy Bricker (Mark) of Ft. Myers, FL, Charlene Owings (Phil) of Dothan , AL, Kip Hopkins (Kim) of Ft. Myers FL, step – daughter , Gwendolyn La Mont (Larry) of Tampa, FL, his beloved sister Norma Ledford of Clayton. His grandchildren , Wesley Hopkins , Andrew Leveque, Alex Leveque , Kaleb Hopkins , Tyler Leech , and Lindsey Trutky , his great – grandchildren Christopher Leveque and Mckenzie Leveque. He is also survived bt his cousin Madelyn Stanton of AL, his Aunt Starr York of WA, Aunt Francis Hopkins Watts of OH, and nieces, nephews , and cousins.
Hop joined the Navy after graduating from Rabun County High School and then served our country for eight years during the Korean War. He retired in 2002 as Packing Manager from Gargiulo.
He was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary Post 351 of Fort Myers, Florida. He served as Commander several years. He helped with charities through the VFW Post as well as sending care packages to our service men and women overseas. He enjoyed reading the newspaper everyday , doing the daily crossword puzzles and keeping up with current events , and reading the Clayton Tribune weekly .
He will be buried at the Tiger Cemetery , Rabun County , Georgia and there will be no service.
