C. J. Phillips 85, Clayton, GA
C. J. “Buck” Phillips, 85 of Clayton, husband of Ann Ramey Phillips died Wednesday, May 28, 2008 in the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA.
Born March 10, 1923 in Rabun County he was a son of the late Clarence and Lavonia Azilee Trusty Phillips. He was a carpenter in the construction industry, a member of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department, a Habitat for Humanity Volunteer, Rabun County Rescue volunteer, a WWII veteran, a member of Clayton Baptist Church for over fifty years where he served as a Deacon and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
He was preceded in death by a son Charles Jay Phillips; one brother Bill Phillips; sisters, Nellie Mae Wilbanks Taylor, Azilee English and two sisters who died at a young age.
Survivors include his wife Ann Ramey Phillips of the Home; one daughter Terri Phillips Mentzer of Lakemont, GA; one grandson Billy Edwards of Otto, NC; three sisters Janie Parker of Clayton, GA, Ethel Queen of Charlotte, NC, and Bertha McKay of Clayton, GA.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 2 PM from the Clayton Baptist Church with the Rev. Joey Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Rabun Memory Park Cemetery, Tiger, GA, with military honors accorded by Rabun Chapter 15 D.A.V. and the American Legion Post 220.
Members of the Clayton Fire Department and the Friendship Sunday School Class will serve as honorary escort and are asked to assemble at the church at 1:45 PM Saturday, May 31, 2008.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where friends may call from 1 PM until 5 PM on Friday, May 30, 2008 and will be placed in the church at 12 Noon Saturday to lie in state.
The family is at the home on Highway 76 West. They will receive friends from 1 PM until service time Saturday, May 31, 2008 at the Clayton Baptist Church.
