BERNICE FARMER USSERY NELSON, age 89 of Mountain City, GA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 28, 2016 following an extended illness.
Born in Mt. Airy, Georgia on May 12, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Jones & Idell Hefner Farmer. Mrs. Nelson and her husband, Howard managed Gillespie’s Laundry Mat in Mountain City for many years. She enjoyed word search puzzles, storytelling, and kept everyone laughing with her contagious sense of humor. Mrs. Nelson was proud of being known as one of the “Gold Star Wives,” and enjoyed doing any type of housework. She was a faithful member of the Chechero Baptist Church for many years. Her legacy will carry on through her beloved family and she will truly be missed by many.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, William Jesse Gibson, Edwin Freeman Ussery, and Howard Bartlett Nelson, brothers, Young Farmer, Tobe Farmer, and Bill Farmer.
Survivors include her son & daughter-in-law, Steve & Tammy Ussery of Mountain City, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary “Miffey” Wood of Mountain City, GA, Deborah Ussery Beam (Roger) of Mt. Airy, GA, Nova Nelson Graham (Deryl) of Anderson, SC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pearl Bohannon of Demorest, GA, Mary Weaver (Claude) of Toccoa, GA, Lois Feaster (Johnny) of Chester, SC, nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and a host of other relatives & friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 02, 2016 from the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with the Rev. Milton Wilbanks and the Rev. Mike Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Rabun Memory Park.
The family will receive friends at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour on Wednesday.
