Adilene McCall Penland, 89, of Clayton, Georgia., affectionately known as “Addie” died Tuesday morning September 11, 2012 at her residence.
Born in Macon County, North Carolina, April 15, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Elijah McCall and Sarah Jane Owens McCall. She was the widow of Claude Penland who died in 1980. She was employed at Burlington in the textile industry for a number of years and was a greeter at Wal-Mart for 9 years until retirement at age 85. She was a member of the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church where she was also a member of the WMU. She was the last member of her immediate family.
She is survived by two sons and their spouses; Charles and Lana Gale Penland of Tiger, GA., Mike and Audrey Penland of Lakemont, GA. Two daughters and their spouses; Jane Hollifield and husband, James Friedman of Clayton, and Deborah and Don Johnson of Blairsville, GA. Seven grandchildren and three step grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Also one sister-in –law Frances McCall of Otto, NC.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday September 13, 2012 at the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Daley and Rev. Danny Cannon Officiating. Burial will be in the MT. Moriah Cemetery, Franklin, North Carolina.
The body is at Hunter Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday September 12, 2012. The body will be placed at the church at 1:00 P.M. Thursday to lie in state. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. The family is at their respective residences.
