Willard DeCosta Hawks, 86, Otto, North Carolina.


Willard DeCosta Hawks, known to family & friends as "Bill", was born on Jan. 1, 1926, in Galax, VA, to Yancey E. Hawks and Bertha E. Stoneman Hawks. He entered eternal rest on Dec. 6, 2012, in the Mountain View Nursing Home in Clayton, GA.
He was preceded in death by his brothers - Paul, Guy and Dean; sisters - Annie Harrison and Jackie Hawks.
Bill is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cara S. Hawks, step-son Ronald Sherrill, and many nieces and nephews.
Bill enjoyed travel and was a man of many talents. He joined the Air Force during World War II and over the years worked as a representative for Bausch and Lomb, an eye health care company; as an auditor for Coca-Cola SE Div., and as owner of a paint store and real estate firm. As a Master Mason in Freemasonry, he previously belonged to the Shriner organization.
Upon retirement, Bill and his wife spent several years traveling across country spending time as hosts at Federal National Parks and living in their fifth-wheeler until they settled permanently in Otto, NC, where he resided at the time of his passing. He was known for his jovial disposition and positive approach to living life to the fullest.
Following cremation, his remains will be placed in the Memorial Garden at St. James Episcopal Church in Clayton.
